What’s not to love about sailing the seven seas from port to port around this large world of ours attacking ships as you go to steal their treasure?

Can the whole family enjoy SwashBuckled?
Actually the board game SwashBuckled! is really a hit with our older boys. That’s not to say that the youngest in our family doesn’t want to play the game and join the fun. But the length of the game and the need for calculating cargo, crew fees, cost to rebuild your ship, etc. make it tough for him and he doesn’t ask for more. He gets very distracted when it isn’t his turn.

Of course the older boys and dad love the adventure (mom hasn‘t played yet). One of the elements we like the most is that each voyage brings the chance to randomly be a merchant, pirate, or Lord Nelson and you never knew who could be one or the other, so you have to hide out and plan your attacks on the sly.

How long does a game take?
That really depends on how many people you have playing. But we actually recommend more players for this one. With only 2, your voyages might not cross paths so the fun in being a pirate for a voyage is diminished. But when you get more on the seas a lot can happen.

And let’s just say, you better be prepared for calculating your ship rebuilding cost a number of times in a game.

The length of time this board game takes to play can also be set by the players. You can decide what the winning amount of treasure will be or set a time limit if you’re worried about that. Or leave it set up for days on end playing until all the treasure in the world is acquired. Just have fun.
