Dead Men Tell No Tales: Kraken expansion review

You’ve vanquished the skeleton crew, you’ve grabbed the loot, you’ve kept the deckhands in check, and you’re about to escape the burning ship to enjoy your spoils when it happens.

The ship starts to shake. The floorboards start to rumble. Then all of a sudden, tentacles start bursting through the boards all over the ship.

You and your fellow pirates stumble away from them the best you can when you notice the Kraken surface just off the bow of the ship and block your exit!

How will you survive? Start loading the cannons and take it down!

You can in Dead Men Tells No Tales: The Kraken expansion.

Get with the flow in The River

Living in the Western United States, we’re very familiar with Pioneers. In fact, many of our ancestors were pioneers who helped settle the West.

So games about pioneers have a certain draw for me. The good news is that The River, by Days of Wonder, is a good family board game.

It’s relatively quick to play, keeps players engaged throughout, and has a good balance of luck and strategy.

Falling shapes are fun in Drop It

We recently added a puppy to our family and are working on training her. One of the commands we’re trying to teach her is “Drop It”.

Inevitably, she’ll grab something she’s not supposed and we’ll ask her to “drop it”. It’s hit or miss so far, but we’re working on it.

In Drop It, players take turns dropping various shapes for points.

That’s right — drop some shapes and score points!

It’s time for Fuji Flush to take its well-deserved place among the great family games we’ve reviewed!

(And letting you know about it in time to get it for your family for Christmas.)

And it’s not pulled out to play on our game table downstairs, it’s front and center kitchen table play!

Which is also why it gets played multiple times after dinner (and sometimes after breakfast).

Forbidden Sky delivers cooperative science

You’ve rescued treasure from a sinking island and recovered a legendary flying machine from the desert — now it’s time to power up a rocket from a platform in the clouds 7,000 feet above the ground.

In order to do so, you’ll have to work together as a team to wire together capacitors and lightning rods in a true electrical circuit with the launch pad!

This third installment in the “Forbidden” series of cooperative games is more than just playing with tiles on a table. Players now must create an actual electrical circuit in order to win.

Fantastic Beasts: Perilous Pursuit – cooperative family fun

The hot new movie out this week is Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. That’s why we’re excited about reviewing a hot new family board game this week — Fantastic Beasts: Perilous Pursuit!

In Fantastic Beasts: Perilous Pursuit players work together to capture 5 beasts by rolling special dice. However, if 2 beasts get away or one player loses all their Health, they all lose.
