Random Killer Bunnies

Yep, that’s right. We’ve got some killer bunnies on the loose.
And if you want a totally random card game with some zany characters and actions, then this might be the family game for you.

A number of years ago while on a business trip in Missoula, Montana I dropped by the local game store to find some gifts to bring home to the kids. And the box that almost jumped off the shelf at me was Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot. Up to that point I hadn’t been familiar with the game, but it was the terrific box art that caught my eye and pulled me in.

Our boys were younger than the prescribed age for the game at that stage, but knowing their personalities it just looked like a crazy game that they would like. So when we opened the box, we discovered a new world of wild bunny activity. And after playing the first time we could tell that we’d be on to the expansion packs just to see what else the creators could come up with.

So is it a fun game and who will like it?

Yes, it is fun to play, but if you’re very competitive and like to win by strategy, be warned that this game isn’t for you. No matter what you do during the game, it’s essentially a crap shoot to find out who wins. So it’s a great thing the game is just fun in the playing of it.

The basics:
Try to keep your bunnies alive while you collect carrot cards. The more carrot cards you get, the better because in the end you’ll reveal the magic carrot (from the bottom of a pile of mini carrot cards) and whoever has that carrot card in their possession at the end wins. Simple objective, but don’t forget that your bunnies may be abducted by aliens or struck with the ebola virus or simply die because you can’t gorge them on enough cabbage and water in time.

Not only does every card contain great artwork and creative, witty references, but they are super durable. While the stiffness of the cards make them hard to shuffle, we don’t worry an instant that they’ll get damaged or even have bent corners. They could almost be used as credit cards they’re so thick.

As you can see in their video review, our boys love playing Killer Bunnies. And they’ve hooked their friends as well.

So just keep your eyes peeled for Killer Bunnies on the loose.

  • I just found this review because of your new sortable review list.

My family loves this game. It is the only game that we pull out and everyone has a good if not long time. We just bought the last expansion and the first game with all the expansions included took about 2.5 hours to finish. We still had fun but that was a little long for a card game.

I really love the artwork and everything about the game but i will agree the endgame is a rip off. They tried to change it up a bit with some further expansions but it still comes down to which carrot card is at the bottom of the stack. We have experimented with a few different variations of that idea but we still have not come up with a good one yet. Still, i think that says something about the game if it is still a bunch of fun even if you think the winning mechanic is crap. Thanks for the great review and for adding the sortable list. Now I can go through all of your reviews and see what you had to say a lot easier.
