Do You Even Know Me? party game review

Who hasn’t played a “get-to-know-you” game before?
They’re all over the place.
Whenever you find a newly formed group of people, you’ll find a “get to know each other” activity. We encounter them at school, at work, and at family reunions. Many such activities are merely spoken and don’t include any typical game-type components. There are also a slew of published party games that seek to achieve similar results.
So why are we reviewing Do You Even Know Me? – a similar game that’s new on the scene?
Because we appreciate the work of the person who created it!
(And we enjoy the game.)
Do You Even Know Me? Background
We first became familiar with Brooke Romney through her written work – most notably “52 Modern Manners for Today’s Teens“.
It’s such a fantastic guidebook for families wanting to instill values in their children (and it’s great for adults too).
We also bought her follow-up book, “52 Modern Manners for Kids” and share the messages each week with our kids through our family social media group account. The principles are still valuable even though our kids are young adults and have places of their own.
They’re spiral bound books that we keep out on our kitchen desk with the message for the week on big display. They’re great reminders of how to behave in various situations. And they always give us something great to think about as we pass them frequently.
So when Brooke Romney announced she was making a family game, we couldn’t wait to check it out. We bought a copy of Do You Even Know Me? in January and played it at our next family dinner.

How to play Do You Even Know Me?
Like most get-to-know-you games, Do You Even Know Me? is a super simple game to play. Points are awarded to players, but the real purpose of the game is finding out more about those around you.
To begin, every player takes their own set of 4 cards (A, B, C, D) to use for the multiple-choice answers and the BFF cards are set in the center of the table. That’s all there is to set up.

The game includes 300 mulitple-choice questions that cover a wide variety of topics and situations. Players take turns reading a question and the 4 possible answers. After a player reads the question and answers, they select one of the answers and place their matching card face down in front of them. All other players select a card from their hand that they believe matches the player who read the question.
Once everyone has chosen their card, they’re all revealed. Anyone who matches the player who read the question, takes a BFF card for their score pile.
Play continues clockwise with the next player.
The game ends…whenever the players choose to end the game.
That can be a number of rounds, a number of BFF cards won, or a set time limit.
The player with the most BFF cards wins the game.

Can the whole family enjoy Do You Even Know Me?
Do You Even Know Me? was designed completely with family game play in mind. And that’s exactly where it hits well – with family play.
You may think you know people in your family well, but you still may not know how they’re going to answer these questions. And it’s great getting to find out!
In fact, I got the fewest BFF cards when we played for the first time with our crew. You’d think a father should know these things.

The variety of questions is a great mix. Some are thoughtful and introspective and others are plain fun.
Here are some examples:
If I wake up late, I will skip
- A. Breakfast. I can always eat an early lunch.
- B. Showering. Deodorant and some cologne should do the trick.
- C. Brushing my teeth. That’s what gum is for, right?
- D. Make up. Everyone likes a natural face every once in a while.
At the ocean, you will most often find me
- A. Scuba diving or snorkeling.
- B. Surfing or boogie boarding
- C. Playing games in the sand or exercising.
- D. Laying out or reading.
I spend most of my time thinking about
- A. People. Relationships are my top priority.
- B. Spirituality. What is more important than eternal truths?
- C. Work/Education. I chose this field because it fascinates me.
- D. Adventure. Exploring new places and doing new things is what excites me most.
The game is also great to play with friends. And I’ve taken the game to the office to play with coworkers as well.
In every setting, the questions have been great conversation starters. And that’s perfect for after-dinner family gatherings.
Even though it’s promoted as a game (because of the BFF cards and scoring), we consider it more of just a fun conversation activity. Yes, we’re competitive and like to tout how many BFF cards we get, but really we don’t care much about winning when we play Do You Even Know Me?

How does Do You Even Know Me? score on our “Let’s Play Again” game meter?
As you can see in our section on How To Play, the game end condition is very open-ended. As such, we can really play as long as we want.
The first time we played, we intended to play just one round. But after we finished that round, we wanted to know more, so we just kept playing.
And that’s the way it goes most times we play.
We also like how portable the game is – so we can easily take it with us to larger family gatherings and play again and again.
