SaltCon 2016 is almost here!

SaltCONsigns
Yep, Players Wanted. That’s what makes SaltCon so great.

Less than a month from now, I’ll be enjoying a ton of gaming goodness at SaltCon – a board game convention near Salt Lake City, UT.

I’m especially excited for it this year because I’m going to be there all 3 days. That means 3 days of playing board games to my heart’s content!

It’s a special time of year when I can overdose on playing board games.

I always have a fun time playing games with my family. And I also enjoy having friends over for Guys Game Night once a month. It gives us a chance to catch up while playing games for a few hours.

It’s always a lot of fun.

Yet, it seems when game night ends, I’m still left wanting to play more.

So when SaltCon rolls around, I anxiously anticipate being able to play games for as long as I want.

But that’s not the only thing I look forward to.

Had a blast at SaltCon 2015 with my nephew.

I also really look forward to meeting up with guys I’ve met and played games with in previous years. Because every year the circle of friends gets bigger.

Since I don’t live near where many of them do, SaltCon is my big chance to get together with them again. I’ll play games with those I’ve enjoyed playing with in the past and meet even more folks that I’ll get to know this time around.

Of course, I also have to give huge kudos to my wife.

Though she has no interest in going to such an event, she doesn’t mind that I do. She’s fine with me taking off for a couple days to go do something I thoroughly enjoy.

If that ain’t love, I don’t know what is.

SaltCon keeps on Growing

The first time I attended SaltCon in 2010, Trevor went with me and we didn’t know what to expect. It was held in a small building on the University of Utah campus with a bunch of tables set up for playing games. Around the room were a number of game publishers that we were able to chat with for a while.

The game library keeps getting bigger every year too.

Since those early days of SaltCon, it’s steadily continued to grow.

I’ve been happy to see it continue to expand every year since – first moving to a hotel in Salt Lake City and then to the Davis Convention Center in Layton where it’s been for the last couple years.

In 2015, 820 attendees came to play. And this year the organizers are expecting over 1,000!

There’s more:

  • People
  • Space
  • Games in the game library
  • Hot Games
  • Tournaments
  • Events
  • Trades
  • Giveaways
  • And plenty more Tables to play on!

It’s always fun to join in activities with people that share your same interests. And SaltCon is all about playing games.

Colt Express was one of my favorite games played at SaltCon 2015.

So if you like playing board games, card games, and dice games and you’re in the area, SaltCon is great place to be.

If you haven’t been to a board game convention before, don’t worry. It’s a very friendly atmosphere. Stop by for an afternoon, evening, or a day to see what it’s all about and play some games.

And if you’ve going to be at SaltCon, drop us a line, we’d love to meet you.

  • Gotta love SaltCon. One of my favorite weekends of the year. I always look forward to it. Looks like I’ll be volunteering in the Envoy / Play to Win room on Thursday/Friday morning teaching Chaosmos. After that I look forward to learning and playing all sorts of new (and new to me) wonderful games. I’ll keep an eye out for you and yours…would enjoy playing a game or two with you again. See you next month. 🙂
