What ya gonna play? Ghostbusters the Board Game!

Ghostbusters: The Board Game
What ya gonna play?

We’re excited about a big announcement this week – Ghostbusters The Board Game is coming soon!

Cryptozoic Entertainment is teaming up with Sony Pictures to publish a very fun-looking cooperative board game.

Sure, it’s not out quite yet, but we’re still excited.

Why?

  • 5 simple reasons:
  • We love cooperative board games.
  • Ghostbusters is a fun, classic movie.
  • Cryptozoic Entertainment publishes great games (like Gravwell that we really enjoy).
  • Modular, versatile game board.

The game play sounds like a lot of fun.

Here’s the official blurb for the game:

Ghostbusters: The Board Game is an episodic adventure game for one to four players, who are charged with busting ghosts and sealing gates to the Spirit World. The game is customizable, cooperative, and highly re-playable. It features unique illustrations and figures based on original artwork and designs by Dan Schoening, the artist of IDW’s Ghostbusters comic book series. Each Ghostbuster has a distinct role and unlocks unique abilities by gaining experience. The game offers modes for different levels of players, making it accessible to beginners and challenging to experts. Now is your chance to save the world!

Which character do you want to play?

As you can see from the images, Ghostbusters: The Board Game is already pretty far along.

The plastic miniatures, the artwork, and the modular board all look fantastic.

In Ghostbusters: The Board Game players choose one of the four Ghostbusters character figures (Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, Winston Zeddemore and Ray Stantz) each with unique traits and talents that can assist the entire team, with highly cooperative gameplay through multiple scenarios. As players gain experience from banishing spirits, the Ghostbusters level up, gaining new abilities that help them take on greater challenges.

Spengler can definitely help the team.

Many board game publishers use Kickstarter to get their initial funding to start production. Once a Kickstarter campaign hits the funding goal, the game WILL be produced. Many funding goals for games are around the $10,000 level.

With Ghostbusters, Cryptozoic set a high funding goal of $250,000.

But that was reached in the very first day!

So anyone that pledges now is definitely getting the game. There is no “if”.
So at this stage, the Kickstarter campaign essentially becomes a pre-order system.

With 27 days left to go, we’re very curious to see how high the funding will go.

The Great War

More fun head-to-head battles – this time for WWI.

Another board game on its way to being published that I’m excited about is also one that just launched a Kickstarter campaign this week is The Great War.

Why am I excited for this one?

Because it’s modeled after one of my favorite 2-player board games – Memoir ’44!

It’s the latest adaptation of Richard Borg’s Command & Colors system (Memoir ’44, Battlelore, Battle Cry) – bringing the epic battles of World War 1 to the gaming table.

The battles will soon be here.

I love the wide variety of scenarios in Memoir ’44 and have continued to buy expansions for the game to have even more arenas for competitive, head-to-head game play. We also have a copy of Battle Cry – covering the American Civil War.

While we don’t have a physical copy of Battlelore, we do have the digital version for iPad and the boys really enjoy playing it.

So we’re excited to see this fun game play expand to The Great War.

And while the funding levels aren’t set as high as Ghostbusters, this game also surpassed its initial funding goals right out of the gate.

We don’t usually write about Kickstarter campaigns. But in these cases, we’re too excited not to share the love.

And don’t forget about Stipulations either. The Kickstarter campaign for this fun party game is still ongoing. Help it become a success as well.
