The best Christmas present I received

Board game time
Cheap or Priceless?

This year our 16 year old son gave me the best Christmas present.

It wasn’t a board game. In fact it wasn’t anything physical at all.

It was a coupon book. Sure it may sound like something cheap to give.

But it also wasn’t any ‘ole coupon book.

I remember giving coupon books to people when I was young as well. It’s also an idea we’ve given our kids over the years – a book full of things like doing chores for the other person. Rather than spending money, promise to do kind acts of service for them.

Trevor’s coupon book wasn’t full of offers to do my chores for me though.
His was a coupon book of time.

Now that he’s 16, he’s very involved in many activities that take him away from home. So getting a coupon book from him with promises to spend time with dad is super awesome!

Trevor’s present also included a letter with the coupons that showed me the thought that went into his present as well. Here’s what it said:

Dear Dad,
This year I wasn’t sure what to get you for Christmas. Then I got thinking. “Hmm…What does my father like?” Then I felt stupid because of course I know what you like! Games! But then I also got to thinking, “Hmm…My father also has plenty of games.”
So finally I came up with this wonderful idea. I call them Force Cards. Any time you want to play a game with me, just whip one of these puppies out and shove it in my face and say, “Son, I’m forcing you to have fun with me. So let’s go enjoy it!” And I shall comply.
So merry Christmas, father. May your days be long and bright. 🙂

Ready for time with my son.

I felt pretty special to receive such a great gift from my teenage son.

My hope is that all you dads (and moms) out there can enjoy the gift of time with your kids this coming year!
