Save The Animals – Two by Two
When you’re talking about saving animals “two by two” there’s really only one thing that comes to mind – Noahs’ Ark. That’s right, the board game Two by Two is all about saving animals before the flood by getting them on to your ark – just like Noah in the Old Testament of the Bible. However, in Noah’s time, we’re sure that his family all worked together to get the animals on the ark. Not so with Two by Two. In Two by Two everyone has their own ark and they compete to get the most animals on to their ark.
Watch Brooke’s video review and see what your family might think of Two by Two:
Can the whole family enjoy Two by Two?
Sure they can. With a board game centered around Noah and saving animals, you bet it’s going to be focused on families playing together. And that’s exactly where it hits. It’s basically a game of set collection – where you sail your little ark piece around the flooding area and collect pairs of animals. As you can see in Brooke’s video review, it has very basic movements and actions and is simple enough for very young kids to understand.
The artwork also lets you know that this board game is very kid-friendly. All of the animals are drawn in a cartoon style which is fun for kids. And we’ve also found that picking up the tiles from the board is also easier for little fingers than for dad’s fingers.
How much luck is involved in Two by Two?
Because the animal tiles are placed out face-down, randomly around the board, there is a lot of luck involved in Two by Two. Whenever you turn over a tile, you’re never sure what you’re going to find. But that doesn’t mean it’s all luck. You still have the choice of where to place a water tile, where to move your ark, and when to collect animals. And a lot of times when you’re near animals to collect you’ll have a choice as to which pair you choose. It’s these choices that keep everyone engaged in the game and trying to plan their moves.
How does Two by Two score on the “Let’s Play Again” meter?
So far, Two by Two is a board game that has scored well on the “Let’s Play Again” meter. It’s another game that the kids will play more than one time in a row. In part because it doesn’t take too long to play and also because of what we mentioned earlier about the element of luck. It’s both the choices they need to make on their turn as well as the mix of luck on what they’ll turn over that keeps them coming back. The kids want to play again right after finishing one game because they’re sure they’ll do better the next time.
Thanks to Valley Games and Rob Bartel for providing a great family board game with a theme that we also enjoy.

Looks interesting, but it also looks like someone took Survive: Escape from Atlantis, reskinned it for kids, and put it out the door.
It’s actually quite different then Survive: Escape from Atlantis and doesn’t have that feel at all.
In Survive, yes the waters are rising, but you’re trying to scramble your pieces to the boats, away from the sea creature, whales, and sharks, and get them to an outside island. In Two by Two, yes the waters are rising, but you’re just doing a set collection of trying to sail near matching tiles. So they both have waters rising to cover the board, but they’re very distinct.
