New Website for The Board Game Family!
We’re super excited to roll out our new website today!
We’ve been working on this for a while so it feels really good to finally launch it. We really like the look and feel of the new site and hope you do to. So for the thousands that have come to our site and watched our board and card game video reviews, we first say “Thanks” and we secondly say “Welcome to the new site!”
And to celebrate our new site launch we’re going to have a Giveaway Contest!
We’re planning to post the rules to the contest this weekend. So keep an eye out for the contest information.
With the new layout we’ve added a few sections that we hope will make it easier to find a board game or card game that your family might enjoy.
First of all, we’ve improved the “All Game Reviews” section to not only include the full list of the games we’ve reviewed, but you can also jump to a specific category to help you better locate a game you might like. In the sidebar, there’s a section called “Game Time” and that also has categories listed. If you go to that area, you’ll see the most recent posts related to those categories. Or you can always use the search bar at the top.
Other elements you’ll notice in the sidebar are ways you can stay up to date with The Board Game Family (like Facebook, Twitter, or getting email updates), a list of recent posts, links to our sponsor sites for getting a copy of a game for your own family, and donation links to help support our efforts. The final element in the sidebar is a snapshot of the games we’ve recently played. This feature is powered by BoardGameGeek.com where dad records his game plays. So those should more accurately be called “Games Dad Has Played Recently” because the kids are playing games every day and could care less about recording their plays (the fun is in the playing after all).
The other big element that we think will be helpful to those looking for a fun board game to play with their family are the ratings we’re adding to each of our reviews. As you’ve seen, the person doing the video review always gives a rating at the end on what they think of the game. Well, now we’re going to add ratings from each of us on every game. So for example if you find that you seem to like games that Trevor likes, then you’ll be able to quickly see what he thinks of each game even if he didn’t do the video review.
Since we’ve done 50 game reviews so far it may take a little while to get all those in the system, but the existing review write ups will get this added shortly.
Down at the bottom of the pages, you’ll also find links to other sites that we recommend – from game informational pages, to online game stores, and fun game podcasts to listen to. Keep watching for more to come to!
And finally – we’d love to hear from you about our new site. Let us know what you like, dislike, or would like to see added. To send us a message, simply go to the About Us page and fill out the comments form.
Enjoy!
Thanks for this site. Our family got in to games about 2 years ago (so far just me and my wife until the 21 month old gets a little older…). I’ve been a fan of bgg.com and found gameswithhayden.com who mentioned you during a podcast. We were bummed to realize we didn’t connect with you before we moved from Alpine, UT to Denver, CO. Anyway, it was fun to read the article in Mormon Times recently.
Good luck. Keep it up, and keep adding to people having fun with their families!
