Since you can’t worry about driving when you’re young, you need to get down to more important things – like drawing.

So bring on Backseat Drawing and Backseat Drawing Jr.

Although all can enjoy it, we’re sure you’ll run into frustrations. Since everyone won’t be on the same level when it comes to describing how to draw something, it can result in some tough moments. But if you go in knowing that, then you’re ready to keep the game light and fun.

And on the learning side, it’s really a good game to help kids learn how to be descriptive in what they’re thinking.

Everybody-In or Team-Play
In the video, the kids describe more of how to do the Team-Play version. But Backseat Drawing Jr. also adds rules about how to play with everyone participating on their own – which is how we do it when we play as a family.

That way, there’s less arguing about who’s on which team and it lets everyone watch the one artist and try to figure out what he or she is trying to draw. The first person to guess 5 correct wins (the successful director also scores points).

When we play as a family, we also play the with the “Rules Modifications for Younger Players”. Those include getting “close enough”, allowing for “oops”, and in our book – not always keeping score.

So we usually pull out the Backseat Drawing Jr. version for family game night and standard Backseat Drawing when it’s our adult party game time.
