Think quick and pass it on – it’s Catch Phrase

Catch Phrase is a great party game for both friends and family. There are many “guess the word” party games, but Catch Phrase is the one that tops our list.

It’s probably our favorite word party game because of the fast-paced action in quickly guessing and passing on to the next team before the timer stops. And it’s the timer that gets players talking frantically and gets them flustered because it starts beeping faster and faster as time goes on. But you never know when it’s going to end because it’s a random timer.

Taboo is another fun word game with some anxiety because you have someone looking over your shoulder waiting to buzz you if you use the forbidden words in your hints for your team. But it’s the list of words you can’t use that makes it tougher for our younger kids. So we prefer Catch Phrase. Plus, Catch Phrase is faster paced because after the word is guessed, you pass it (or throw it) on to the next person/team rather than in Taboo where one person tries to just get through as many words as they can in a turn. So Catch Phrase keeps more people engaged in the action.

We rarely keep score because we really don’t care who “wins” (except with some groups). We just have fun in the quick thinking, guessing, and passing. And when the buzzer goes off in mid-pass it always gets a big shout from everyone pointing fingers at which team it went off on.

We highly recommend Catch Phrase.
