BANG! A surprising hit, now a favorite

What a fun card game!

And what surprised us most is that our 6 year old is the one wanting to play it every day. When we first got it he watched in the wing just asking to play. We thought the prospect of ‘shooting’ at each other might be too personal for a younger child. Boy, were we mistaken.

When we first dealt him in, wouldn’t you know it – he was the Sheriff. So I took time to explain that most people in the game would be shooting at him and not to worry about it. And when he took his first hit, I watched closely to see if tears would well up in his eyes. But lo and behold, not only did he take the hit in stride, he started rattling off some serious cards – taking people out. It was a riot. He’s got his cards and he’s not afraid to use them. We soon realized that he isn’t to be taken lightly. And our daughter is the same – you have to play them straight up, or you’ll be out of the game quick with them laughing all the way.

BANG! card gameYou can see they know their stuff in this video.

I will add that we’ve made one slight change to the cards for our family game. There’s a beer card that lets you gain a life point back. Since we don’t drink alcohol, that card has become our root beer card. (Which goes great with family night ice cream by the way.)

It’s a quick, light hearted game to play and like M&Ms, you can never have just one. It just begs to be played again and again.

  • This is on my "to buy" list. Sounds like a lot of fun. We picked up a game w/ a similar theme at Wal-Mart, but they stopped selling it. I think it's called Bandits, but I'd have to check. Thanks for the review – this sounds like a good intro/filler game to keep around.

  • I remember a co-worker taking this out of his stash in the office when we had a day-long blackout. You teach a bunch of jaded “non-gamer” grown-up men play this game, you’ll end up with a 2-hour long epic western tale of beer, betrayal, and brass balls.

  • I just recently purchased the 10th anniversary edition of this game and have yet to play it. Sometimes there seems to be too many people at our game night. But I definitely think it looks great and look forward to playing it.
